Celebrating Virginians During Black History Month

bh_adFebruary is Black History Month, and Ted DeLaney, associate professor of history and head of the department at Washington and Lee, has developed a special tribute to 14 African-Americans with ties to Virginia and who have played — and in some cases continue to play — important roles in the history of both Virginia and the nation. The audio and written profiles of the 14 show a wide variety of accomplishments — from Arthur Ashe’s championships in tennis to Maggie Lena Walker, the first woman bank president.
