Inauguration Day and W&L

A busload of Washington and Lee students, faculty, and administrators boarded at midnight Monday for the drive to Washington, D.C., where they will see what they can see of Tuesday’s inauguration of Barack Obama. You can read and see what they are thinking and viewing on the special inauguration blog. But for those who have opted not to brave the crowds and the cold, Elrod Commons is offering viewing options with big screen televisions set up from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Commons Living Room, Stackhouse Theatre and the Marketplace. For a preview of what the much anticipated inaugural address might include, you can consult the piece that ran in Sunday’s Richmond Times-Dispatch in which three Washington and Lee faculty — William Connelly, Rebecca Harris and Mark Rush — joined faculty members from other Virginia colleges and universities with their previews of the speech. Or you can also read what Bob Strong of the politics department wrote in Monday’s Roanoke Times to compare Obama with Jimmy Carter.
